Africa Energy Initiative
AHEAD working to build capacity in Mozambique!
 Joćo Chidamoio | Joćo Venāncio |
As of September 2007, two university professors from the sub-Saharan nation
of Mozambique will be in Rochester for a year to address the challenge of
sustainable energy transitions in the developing world. Chemical Engineering
professors Joćo Venāncio and Joćo Chidamoio will study at the University of
Rochester and work with the nonprofit AHEAD to craft projects applicable to
their national context. AHEAD is raising money to support this effort;
please give generously.
The Rochester community has much to share with these visitors about innovations in energy production, transmission, and efficiency. Our Mozambican visitors have much
to share with Rochesterians about the need for global energy equity, realities in
the developing world, and technological discoveries from abroad. Biofuels are part
of Rochester's growing alternative energy focus and the research subject of one
visiting professor. National energy planning is the subject of the other professor's
research.
During the year, Professors Venāncio and Chidamoio will speak to dozens of
professional and community groups. They will also travel throughout the region to
observe innovative energy projects first hand. Email AHEAD for more information or
call us at +1 (585) 275-7429.
