About AHEAD: AHEAD Energy is a nonprofit housed at the University of Rochester. Since 1988. AHEAD has sought to assist Lower Income Countries to assemble the resources they need to develop local energy sources, making them available to improve people's lives and livelihoods in ways that safeguard the natural environment. GE has it right: energy does bring good things to life. For the half of humanity that does not have access to modern energy service, life is not so good. Energy makes possible everyday things we often take for granted: food preparation, illumination, refrigeration, transportation, communication, sanitation, and space heating/cooling. How to provide access to clean, efficient, reliable, affordable energy services to an additional 3 billion people, while protecting environmental balances is perhaps the greatest challenge of our time. It has ramifications for all human beings and life on earth.
